Ornament and additional trim can sometimes conceal small variations, while a minimal detail exposes alignment, proportion, material transitions, and workmanship. When elements are intended to meet cleanly, dimensions and installation sequences must be understood before construction reaches that point.
Simple designs therefore require careful documentation and communication. Designers, builders, and trade professionals must agree on what each detail is intended to accomplish and how every part contributes to it. The absence of visible complexity places greater responsibility on planning and execution.
Complexity also has financial consequences. Every additional material may require procurement, delivery, preparation, installation, transitions, and future maintenance. Every change in plane or ceiling height may affect framing, drywall, trim, lighting, and mechanical coordination. Every unique detail requires someone to understand and build it.

This is one reason simple projects can be underestimated. People see the resolved result rather than the alternatives that were studied, the conflicts that were coordinated, or the features that were deliberately removed. What looks effortless is often the product of considerable discipline.

Complexity is easy to add because every project contains more possibilities than it needs. Simplicity is harder because it requires understanding, prioritizing, coordinating, and editing those possibilities until the essential ideas remain.
