Planning an occupied renovation begins by identifying what must remain dependable while construction is underway.

Those requirements influence scope, sequencing, temporary facilities, access, communication, material decisions, and cost. A construction plan that appears efficient on paper can become difficult to execute if it assumes an occupied building will function like an empty one.

Identify What Must Remain Operational

Before establishing demolition dates or finalizing finishes, identify the activities the building cannot lose.

For a family, that might include at least one functioning bathroom, a temporary food-preparation area, pet access, laundry, or a protected workspace for someone working remotely.

For a small office, reliable internet, staff parking, client access, confidential meeting space, and uninterrupted operations during core business hours may be essential.

A restaurant may need to preserve customer access, food-service support areas, or a clearly defined closure schedule.
